What is Naturopathy?
“Natural medicine which works to identify and treat the cause(s) of illness, as well as alleviating symptoms"
Naturopathy involves practices derived from a combination of traditional knowledge and current scientific research as well as common sense. The philosophy of Naturopathy is that our bodies have the innate ability to be healthy and heal themselves, so if that is not happening, there is something which is impeding this ability. Conventional medicine excels in emergency situations and at times rapid symptom relief. The strength of Naturopathic Medicine is the in depth investigation into causes - providing permanent resolution of symptoms. Naturopathy uses dietary and lifestyle modifications alongside supplemental medicine if needed.

The process:

-
Initial Consultation to identify and address causes of concern and make a treatment plan. (90 mins) The plan may include adjustments to diet and lifestyle to help remove cause(s) and ensure the body and mind are getting the nutrition, rest and balance it needs. Further support if necessary would be in the form of nutritional or herbal medicine

-
Follow up consultation (60 mins). Assess progress and alter the plan as necessary. Sometimes change happens quickly, sometimes it takes a while, depending on several factors. Whatever the case though, I will work with you for as long as it takes to help you restore health.

The recommendations made during a Naturopathic consult are safe and effective. I am able to treat a wide range of conditions, from mild to severe, acute to chronic, from new-born to elderly, in all systems of the body. As well as a treatment, Naturopathy is also an effective preventative medicine, helping the body to maintain health for years to come, decreasing risk of disease through education of healthy diet and lifestyle habits which nourish the body and mind.
Naturopathy can work alongside medical approaches, often improving the effect of necessary medications, and minimising the risk of adverse effects. No stone unturned, supporting the whole self towards optimum health.

I am registered with the Clinical Nutrition Association which is recognised by Southern Cross Health Insurance, NIB Health Insurance and Accuro Health Insurance. Depending on your insurance policy you may be eligible to claim back your nutrition consultation. Check with your health insurance provider today.

"I had been having issues with my guts for more than a decade, and could not get to the bottom of it. It wasn't for want of trying either, including multiple colonoscopies. It got to the point where it was suggested to have my appendix removed - then along came Lauren. She saved my appendix, and has drastically improved my quality of life. Her deep understanding of how our bodies work led to a solution for me that actually worked and I can't thank her enough!"

" I took my 6 year daughter to Lauren for help with worsening eczema, and ongoing behavioural and emotional challenges. I found her to be incredibly empathetic, thorough, and very open to hearing what both myself and my daughter had to say. She was great at listening to us both, and took lots of time to listen to my daughter and encourage her. Within just a few weeks we saw a huge improvement all around, both physically and behaviourally, and those changes have been maintained. I would not hesitate to recommend Laurens services"

" I have wanted to do a gut cleanse for years but have always come to a dead end with the idea of going for a colonic and suffering mortifying bowel movements in front of someone else! Being on a healing journey of my own now, and really desperately wanting to have that gut cleanse to remove any dysbiosis in the gut micrbiome– the perfect solution presented itself when Lauren invited me to take part in the Shankaprakshalana Cleanse – not only is this an ancient ayurvedic methodology but I could avoid any mortifying experiences! We were guided by Lauren through a zoom call and could, in the comfort of our own homes (and loos!) really massage our intestines with a series of asanas and the non-invasive salt water drink certainly got things going in no time at all. The Kichari and guidelines on how best to rebalance and repopulate our guts post treatment was so useful – this is definitely something I would like to do as recommended bi-annually. A safe non-invasive cleanse with ancient wisdom to back it all up…Thank you. I feel great."

Can Naturopathy be safely used alongside my medications and other treatment ?Yes. We understand that there is often a need for medication, and all recommendations will be safe to use alongside other treatments. In fact, natural products often enhance the effectiveness of medications and can reduce side effects.
-
Will I see results quickly? It depends on your individual situation, how long you have had the issues and how many changes we are able to make for a start. Most people begin to feel better quickly, however long stanging illness can take time to resolve.
-
Will the recommendations mean big changes for me?Again, this depends on your situation. As a healthy mind and body are reliant on a balanced diet, exercise and self care, often changes are required - changes which can be done step by step with Lauren's support and guidance. Nothing is obligatory, and the treatment plan is a negotiation between Lauren's recommendations, and what you feel is possible.
-
I've tried so many types of treatment and nothing has worked, why could Naturopathy be any different?"Naturopathic Medicine works first to identify and remove the cause of ill-health, allowing the body to heal. We then use dietary tweaks, lifestyle inspiration, nutritional and herbal medicine to boost the body's healing capacity. No treatment will work effectively if the cause is not first removed. Identifying the cause of illness is the key, while boosting the body's natural healing capacity - working with the body, rather than against it.
-
Will it be expensive? Will I need lots of tests and supplements?Every situation is different. Sometimes Lauren will have a good idea of what is happening for you without testing - at other times some comprehensive testing would be beneficial for diagnosis. It is possible to help heal the body through diet and lifestyle alone, however often giving the body extra nutrients and herbs can be the catalyst for faster and more effective change. Nothing is obligatory, you will be presented with recommendations in your treatment plan, and can discuss what feels right for you.
-
What is the process? We start with an initial consultation, between 60-90 mins, where we gather a full health history and begin to develop a treatment plan. We then meet again for a follow up usually between 2-4 weeks later to assess change and tweak the plan. We work together for as long as it takes to restore balance to the body and mind.
